Moderated Artist Panel Discussion

Thursday, April 20, 5:30pm

Thursday, April 20 from 5:30 - 7:30pm
at Harwood Art Center

Harwood Art Center is pleased to announce our April exhibitions, ________Stand featuring the collaborative conceptual artwork of The Lovegomerys (Jessamyn Lovell, Lee Montgomery, and Rudy Montgomery) along with a retrospective exhibition of Leo Neufeld’s portrait and landscape paintings, The First 50 Years.

Although these two shows exemplify distinct approaches to art making, it is apparent that the act of creation is essential to the Lovegomerys and Neufeld. Together, the works in these exhibitions provide an interesting view of differing philosophies on art. To make sense of it all, the artists will participate in a panel discussion moderated by Julia Mandeville on Thursday, April 20 from 5:30 - 7:30pm to explore their motivations for making art and what makes art successful. Please join us!

HARWOOD STORIES

SUZANNE SBARGE
SUZANNE SBARGE

Former Director of Harwood

When I started the building was primarily a studio center for artists with very little public programming. The only staff members were the Building Manager Marshall Kovitz and me, and we were both part-time. I worked to expand the reach of Harwood through lots more exhibitions, classes and events, and the Harwood Summer Arts Camp. I focused on community involvement and marketing, which transformed Harwood from a mostly quiet studio center into a public venue that was always buzzing with activity.

I am grateful to the Harwood for launching my career in arts administration over 20 years ago and for serving as the umbrella for 516 ARTS in our first year.
