Longtime friends Claudia Baragiola and Carol Carpenter inspired and encouraged each other to begin painting in the mid 1980s. Each is primarily self taught and each has developed a style that fits within the broad heading of “realism”, although with widely differing approaches in every formal aspect. Gallery viewers are encouraged to note these differences--in subject matter, medium, size, scale, color, vantage, paint application, etc. The common thing, however, in the artists’ work is this: that neither desires or attempts photographic recordings of what they see but rather, highly personalized interpretations of observable sources.
