Etching
Carol Sanchez
Are you inspired after viewing Francisco Goyaʼs “Los Caprichos” etchings on exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum of Art? (February 5- May 13, 2012) Well now is your chance to learn the process. In this eight-week class students will learn the art of etching their own imagery onto copper plates and printing them on an etching press.
Etching is a printmaking method in which lines and tones are incised into copper plates, with an etchant, and printed with ink onto paper using a printing press. Students will learn to prepare plates with grounds, draw, etch and print them. Techniques explored: Dry point, line etch, aquatint (values), hard and soft grounds. Students will use less toxic materials to create their images.
Each class session will consist of a demonstration with ample press time. All materials and tools are provided with a $50.00 materials fee due at the first session. Students should be prepared with ideas for the first class meeting. Register early as enrollment is limited to six students.
