Introduction to Oil Painting

Have you always wanted to paint in oils, but did not know where to begin? Or, perhaps you have  painted in oils before, but your colors became muddy? In this beginning oil painting class, students will learn to set up a palette, to properly store and work with solvent-based materials and learn to paint clean, expressive paintings from still life. Students will explore basic color theory and develop the ability to mix colors while exploring varying textures and techniques. We will investigate basic concepts of composition and will foray into formal abstraction. Demonstrations including industry standard canvas stretching and slide discussions will be included in the course. Students will learn to navigate the complex world of oils with ease and precision.
