Julia Gomez is a native of Santa Fe who made her career in public school education, retiring after 36 years in the classroom. For the past 20 years she has been a Spanish colonial colcha artist. Her colcha mentor was Monica Sosaya Halford, and she learned weaving from master weaver Beatrice Maestas. Julia has won many awards and honors, including blue ribbons at Spanish market and the Santos award at the State Fair. She is a docent at the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art where she teaches embroidery and at El Rancho de las Golondrinas.  She is Vice President of La Sociedad Folklórica.
