Lauren Camp’s new exhibition of work draws upon the tradition of the self-portrait to explore the issues,
concerns and unique experiences of being female. The series bears witness to the artist’s own life,
filters the world around her through her fingertips
and voice, and ultimately stimulates viewers to consider their own hidden selves.
This show was created through a collaboration between ArtStreet, Harwood Art Center and Tamarind Institute, made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. This show is a culmination of weekly art, writing and printmaking workshops which explored the relationship between word and image. This process broke down barriers between housed and homeless artists and provided technical grounding for artists who lack access to the arts and artistic instruction.
