Two printmakers explore the concepts of the weather, endurance, perseverance, survival of difficult times, and aging, using multiple print media to capture the marks, signs, and feel of this environmentally and emotionally rich theme. The prints in this show come from observing the imprint of weathering on different surfaces.
For this site specifically designed installation, “In the Bulk” is wherever the viewer is when they are not within the gallery. The term “bulk” or “hyperspace” as defined in the field of theoretical physics is the place between universes. Murray transports the viewer into another universe through the simple action of passing through a door, and walking into the universe he created. The planets and stars are different sized houses. The fabric throughout the gallery alludes to the term, “fabric of space and time”. By walking on the fabric the viewers are marking the time that has passed. (James Murray is a CROSSING graduate student awardee from 2009.)
CNM Community College presents its annual group exhibition of artwork organized and presented by students in the Art Career Concerns course. In addition to learning how to organize their own exhibition, students make a body of work, write an artist statement, write an artist CV and learn how to put together a digital portfolio. This exhibition is the culmination of learning often complex practicalities of being a professional artist.
