Cathy Wysocki

Gripped: Excerpts from Poisoned World

Cathy Wysocki paints discomfort and dark worlds twisted and refigured. Like a visionary chronicler of the times her expressionist and surrealist imagery is dramatic & disturbing, conveying an awful beauty in the horror portrayed. This exhibit is a selection of works from the series called "Poisoned World" -from the 3 Poisons in Buddhism (greed, hatred, and ignorance). Wysocki began the series in 2006 inspired by rampant greed and consumption, an illegal  war raging on, blinding self-absorption and subsequent complacency, to name but a few.  She was compelled with an unapologetic fury to address these issues of the suffering world in her work.

Myriam Tapp (continued from March)

Maisons Intérieures

The images and sounds that our senses pick up on a daily basis construct what could be considered a parallel reality inside each one of us. As humans we are shaped by the experiences we live through, and simultaneously we shape the lives of those around us. Myriam Tapp presents a site-specific installation that illustrates the body as a variation of constructed shapes that symbolize the patterns of our lives, a sequence of which we are all, voluntarily or involuntarily, part of. Read our interview with Myriam on our blog.

Richard Cutshall

Forgotten Shadows

Albuquerque artist Richard Cutshall works in the mediums of drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.  Cutshall’s artwork is created intuitively, allowing materials and marks to organically develop and eventually evolve into images and objects. Cutshall’s working method uses a variety of materials and spans the mediums of printmaking, drawing/painting, and sculpture.  Some of Richard’s earliest memories involve making art and he vividly remembers drawing from an early age; using it as a way to make sense of questions and sometimes fearful aspects of the world around him. “My art is very closely connected with the tribulations of my everyday existence, and serves as a kind of self exorcism. In the same manner that ancient cultures sought to magically capture the spirit of their prey or enemies, I create art to capture, subjugate, and perhaps understand my fears, questions, and anxieties.” Forgotten Shadows is a further exploration of those self exorcisms with works ranging from drawings, prints, and assemblage sculptures.
