Main Gallery:This exhibit of woodblock prints is homage to the great Japanese woodblock artist Hokusai’s 36 Views of Mt. Fuji. Mt. Fuji and Mt. Taylor are each sacred mountains in their own part of the world. In this series, which ended up being more than 30 views, Mt. Taylor is seen from many angles, in many seasons and weather conditions, and calls us on to pay attention to and respect the land we live on.
Front Gallery:Chie Yasuda, Ichihara, Japan native, Boston resident and UNM graduate, explores the volatile relationship between humans and the planet in oil paint, watercolor and mixed media. Chie’s goal is to bring beauty and happiness to her environment and expose the human potential for value-creation.
Upstairs North Gallery: This exciting youth show features 6th-12th grade juried art pieces including drawing, painting, small sculpture, photography, and more. Come out to see what we have been creating!
Upstairs South Gallery:This show explores different ways in which vibrant and undulating forms interrelate as they float, weave and twist through their environment. These forms seem recognizable, but are they animal, mineral or vegetable? By keeping them indeterminate, She encourages viewers to access their imaginations and create their own personal stories about her work. This group of acrylic paintings on canvas is open to multiple unpredictable interpretations. While Van Cleve paints in saturated and bold colors, she tempers their intensity to keep them in a balanced relationship with one another. Finding artistic harmony between these colors, that are not often seen together, is an enjoyable challenge.
