Graduate student Jenna Kuiper’s thesis exhibition details a sense of everyday richness and the metaphysics beneath daily activity. Themes of transformation, healing, and vulnerability pervade the paintings, drawings, prints, and small sculptures in this thought-provoking and intimate exhibition. Other topics considered include the sound of the sun, manifest wishes, and a compilation of pen scribbles from fifteen years of old journals. Kuiper studied painting and creative writing at The University of Montana in Missoula. She is energized through the close inspection of the ordinary and commonplace.
Alison Robbenhaar is a landscape artist who has lived in New Mexico for five years. Her work is inspired by the wide open spaces and natural beauty that surrounds us. Alison tries to capture the impression of this beauty through “plein air” work. Inspired by the beauty and troubled by the increasing urban sprawl, Alison frequents areas that are being developed to capture its beauty before it is closed off by a gate. She also travels far and wide throughout New Mexico, and when she sees an image or vista that speaks to her, she will set up her easel and “capture the moment. In addition, Alison also draws and paints the figure, with much of the same philosophy. How we interact and fit into our surrounding spaces, and relate to these spaces, is part of the message in her figurative work. The show will include landscape and figure work. Alison’s work can also be seen at Taos Fine Art in Taos, NM. Her studio is located at The Harwood.
Did you know that CNM has an excellent Art epartment? This exhibition features a cross-section of highly talented artists who demonstrate the benefits of completing strong foundations studies at CNM. The department is proud to honor their successes by showcasing each artist’s recent progress; some are current CNM art students, some have transferred to Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, and some are emerging and practicing professional artists. This exhibition runs concurrently with a CNM Art Studio Faculty show in the Main Gallery.
