Carol C. Sanchez, B-9

Harwood Studio Artist since: 2004
I am a printmaker and here at the Harwood Art Center I have a Printmaking Studio, where I create my Mezzotints, teach workshops, and rent   out my press to other artists. I earned a MFA from the State University of New   York at Albany, and BFA from the University of New Mexico both in Printmaking. I have shown my work  both nationally and internationally.  My Mezzotints are in many private and public collections including The National Hispanic Cultural Center of New Mexico, XiʼAn Academy of Fine Art in Xiʼan, China.  Currently you can see my work at the Leich Lathrop Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque or on my website.

What does Harwood mean to you?

The Harwood Art center has provided me the space and opportunity to have a working printmaking workshop. I am able to create my work in an environment that is conducive to creativity.  Having this space also enables me to teach printmaking workshops and I am also able to extend the space to other artists by renting out my etching press.

HARWOOD STORIES

SUZANNE SBARGE
SUZANNE SBARGE

Former Director of Harwood

When I started the building was primarily a studio center for artists with very little public programming. The only staff members were the Building Manager Marshall Kovitz and me, and we were both part-time. I worked to expand the reach of Harwood through lots more exhibitions, classes and events, and the Harwood Summer Arts Camp. I focused on community involvement and marketing, which transformed Harwood from a mostly quiet studio center into a public venue that was always buzzing with activity.

I am grateful to the Harwood for launching my career in arts administration over 20 years ago and for serving as the umbrella for 516 ARTS in our first year.
