Artist Bio

I am a visual artist with an MFA from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University as well as an MBA from the University of New Mexico. I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts. In 1992 I completed my BFA in painting at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and shortly afterwards moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Having spent time on the water growing up, I find parallels between the ocean and the great expanses of land and sky here in New Mexico. My inspiration comes from the colors, rhythms, and patterns I see in the landscape, and from the ocean landscapes of my memories -- the sea, the sky, and the distant horizon.

What Does the Harwood Mean to You?

The Harwood is Community. Working at the Harwood Art Center provides opportunity to build relationships with other artists, the amazing Harwood Staff, and the larger Albuquerque community.  It's a beautiful place to work, and I find inspiration every day I'm there.

HARWOOD STORIES

Susan Klebanoff

Susan Klebanoff

Former Resident Artist

I had the good fortune to be an artist at the Harwood Art Center from 1996 – 2005. It was wonderful being in a community of artists that were so creative and supportive of each other. Having just arrived in NM in ’96, it was particularly meaningful for me because I did not know anyone in this state, and it enabled me to create immediate friendships with like minded people. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work at Harwood and believe that the [Harwood] Art Center is vital to the neighboring community.

Susan Klebanoff is an internationally recognized contemporary tapestry artist who lives and works in Albuquerque. She kept a studio at Harwood Art Center from 1996 – 2005.
