Community Celebration: Saturday, March 7 from 5 – 8pm
Exhibitions Run: March 7 – 26, 2020

Harwood Art Center and Escuela del Sol Montessori are pleased to present Encompass, a unique multi-generational art event that takes place annually. Featuring four gallery exhibitions, open studios, hands-on art making projects, live music, food trucks, and activities for all ages, Encompass is both a reflection of and an offering to our community; this year, our focus is on “Constellations,” as we reflect on mythologies, marking time, and modes of navigation through the darkness.

Constellations

A star in the night sky is miraculously significant in and of itself. When many stars form a constellation, a more magical, expansive picture comes into view – inspiring mythologies, marking time, and offering modes of navigation through the darkness. Encompassing a breadth of creative voices and visions, Constellations honors New Mexico’s artists and artistic community as beacons for all who call this home. Artists: Tytianna Harris, Stephanie Lerma, Jen Pack, Jackie Riccio, and Sophia Sanchez. (main gallery, first floor)

Stella

Escuela del Sol Montessori’s Jr. High and 6th grade class orchestrate and lead an exploration of mythology and astronomical constellations delving into the unknown, ritual, storytelling, and myth-making.  Their installation is created collaboratively with all of the Escuela del Sol elementary students. (front gallery, first floor)

All Together

An exhibition of work made by Harwood Art Center’s extended community, All Together includes Harwood studio artists, administrative staff practicing artists, teaching artists and Escuela del Sol Montessori teachers, to support our organization’s mission to nurture a passion for lifelong learning, creative expression and engaged citizenship. (north gallery, upstairs)

Triangulum

Triangulum features artworks made by youth enrolled in Harwood Art Center’s free Creative Roots outreach programs. Join elementary students at Johnny Tapia Community Center, students at Hayes and Garfield Middle Schools, and Harwood’s Art & Social Justice apprentices in a celebration of our creative expression. (south gallery, upstairs)
