Harwood Art Center and Escuela del Sol Montessori are pleased to present Encompass, a unique multi-generational art event that takes place annually. Featuring four gallery exhibitions, open studios, hands-on art making projects, live music, food trucks, and activities for all ages, Encompass is both a reflection of and an offering to our community; this year, we are focusing on the “Future Perfect,” as we project ourselves forward and look back on actions yet to be completed.
Future Perfect
Haley Greenfeather English, Lynnette Haozous, David Leigh, Madeline MacKenzie, and Jeremy Salazar explore the Future Perfect by projecting themselves forward and looking back on actions yet to be completed through site-specific, ephemeral installations and murals in the gallery. (main gallery, first floor)
Déjà Vu
By the time we see in green and blue we will already have had déjà vu. What would the world look like through the eyes of a bunny? And how would that world look if a bunny had a daydream? The students of Escuela del Sol invite you to enter a magical realm where bunnies play in rock bands, mushrooms grow plentifully, and music plays all through the night. (front gallery, first floor)
All Together
An exhibition of work made by Harwood Art Center’s extended community, All Together includes Harwood studio artists, administrative staff practicing artists, teaching artists and Escuela del Sol Montessori teachers, to support our organization’s mission to nurture a passion for lifelong learning, creative expression and engaged citizenship. (north gallery, upstairs)
Where We Belong
Harwood’s Creative Roots outreach program provides free art workshops across the city. This year’s exhibition features a collaborative installation called Finding Home, created by folks at Heading Home and APS Middle School Students. (south gallery, upstairs)
OPEN STUDIOS
Encompass is our biggest open studio night of the year! In addition to open studios, Encompass features four gallery exhibitions, hands-on art making projects, live music, food trucks and activities for all ages. Join us for this community wide celebration!
ART MAKING, LIVE MUSIC & FOOD
Plates Against Patriarchy presents a collaborative community glazing workshop. Participants are invited to glaze ceramic pieces for a community installation honoring a matriarch in our community. The finished installation will be part of Harwood’s Bridge: Art and Social Justice Exhibition in September.
Make a night of it – enjoy local food trucks, live music by Sage and Jared’s Happy Gland Band and more art making with Escuela del Sol Jr. High Students and Harwood Studio Artist Aryon Hopkins.
