Harwood Art Center is pleased to present Encompass, a unique multi-generational art event that takes place annually. Featuring five invitational exhibitions, open studios, hands-on art-making projects, live music, food trucks, and activities for all ages, Encompass is both a reflection of and an offering to our community; this year’s theme is Echoes & Dreams.
Encompass is Harwood’s capstone celebration for the year. We invite everyone to this free event as we come together with our community! You are invited to an Community Celebration / Closing Reception on Saturday, April 12 from 4:30pm – 7:30pm
LIVE MUSIC & FOOD
Make a night of it – enjoy local food from Street Food Institute and live music by Lasotras!
Echoes & Dreams
A group exhibition showcases esteemed artists whose work is inspired by history, imagines new futures, and explores time beuond a linear framework. Featuring commissioned installations by Celine Gordon, Sofie Hecht, Mariah Rosales, Phoenix Savage, Jessica Zekus.

What is Yours is Not Yours
Elton Burgest and Lisa Co present their personal stories of separation, boundaries and fences by fusing familiar elements of culturally specific forms, symbols and mediums to create innovative works in contemporary context.

Echoes of the Past
What kind of stories can you find in a one hundred year old building? Escuela students, led by the Jr. High, imagine the ghosts and sprites that might be wending their way through the halls of Harwood.

Shelter
Harwood’s current Social Practice project is called Shelter and centers ideas of home, safety and survival in response to Albuquerque’s housing crisis. Food, water and shelter are basic needs every one of us shares. We invite people of all viewpoints and experiences to consider housing as a human right while they embellish Tyvek houses with art and poetry.

All Together
An exhibition of work made by Harwood Art Center’s extended community, All Together includes Harwood studio artists, administrative staff, practicing artists, teaching artists and Escuela del Sol Montessori teachers, to reflect our organization’s mission to nurture a passion for lifelong learning, creative expression and engaged citizenship.

Community Celebration on April 12!
We invite you to this free event as we come together with our community for a Community Celebration and Closing Reception on Saturday, April 12 from 4:30pm-7:30pm at Harwood Art Center. This event will include Open Studios, food by Street Food Institute, live music by Lasotras, the debut of our latest Artist Made Series Design by Gael Luna, and the following free art-making activities and experiences for our community:
- Live painted portraits by caricature artist, Shane Fox! Shane Fox is a non-binary artist born and raised in New Mexico who hopes to capture moments of euphoria and joy.
- Tarot Readings by artist Celine Gordon from her self published and illustrated tarot deck. Her approach to tarot is grounded and interactive – she focuses on using the deck to provide advice, healing, and guidance rather than fortune-telling.
- Flower Crown Making with artist and craftsperson Jacklyn Le. Jacklyn’s practice is interdisciplinary and she focuses on functional fine art.
- BYO T-Shirt – Live screen printing with 111 T-Shirt Lab of the newest Artist Made Series design by Gael Luna. Gael Luna
OPEN STUDIOS ON APRIL 12!
Since 1991, Harwood Art Center has provided market subsidized creative workspaces to local artists. Our Harwood Studio Artists invite you into their studios to visit them, view their artwork and purchase their beautiful wares. Studio Artists retain 100% of the sales made.
