About the Teaching Artist

Molly Zimmer is a multimedia artist and Textile Restorer. Her fabric sculptures combine painting, textile, and collage with recycled materials. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico and nationally. She has taught sewing, natural dyeing, drawing, and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, non-profit art centers, K-12 schools and universities. She lives in Albuquerque where she maintains a studio at the Harwood Art Center.

Class Description

With textile artist Molly Zimmer, students will explore painting and printing on fabric with natural indigo paste to create one-of-a-kind bandanas. All skill levels are welcome. Students bring their own 100% washed cotton bandanas/fabric for the class. The instructor will provide the dye materials.

This class will be held indoors on our campus near downtown Albuquerque. 1114 7th St NW 87102

When

Saturday March 4th: 9am-3pm & Sunday March 5th: 9am-3pm

*There will be opportunities for breaks

This class is appropriate for ages 18+ 

What to Bring

Student Material List:

Long kitchen gloves

Paper towel roll

Newsprint (recycled or new)

100% washed cotton bandanas or other cotton fabric scraps you want to try, can even be colored fabric

1-2 brushes you like

Rubber carving block material

Speedball rubber carving tools

Design ideas

Pencil, paper, eraser, marker

Refund Policy

Class Fee refunds will be issued on a case by case basis and requests must be emailed to Ruby (ruby@harwoodartcenter.org) at least one week prior to the start date of the class. The Class Fees will not be refunded if students request to withdraw from the workshop less than one week before the start date of the class or after the class has begun. If the class is cancelled by Harwood Art Center for any reason, the Class Fee will be refunded in full.
