About the Teaching Artist

Molly Zimmer is a textile artist and educator. She creates colorful recycled fabric assemblages inspired by nature, particularly gardens and pollinators. She enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, cats, sewing with friends, and natural dyeing. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting and Curatorial Studies from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico and nationally. She has taught sewing, natural dyeing, drawing, and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, non-profit art centers, K-12 schools and universities. She lives in Albuquerque where she maintains a studio at the Harwood Art Center.

Class Description

Come enjoy a crafty weekend with fiber friends and sew a 3D fabric hummingbird from start to finish with recycled fabrics, using Molly’s very own hummingbird pattern. Topics such as pattern construction and garden pollinators will be discussed. Students will go home with additional paper patterns for flowers and insects to try. This class is for all skill levels, who are interested in mixed media, sewing, 3D fabric art, birds, gardens and pollinators, and meeting other fiber enthusiasts.

Refund Policy

Class Fee refunds will be issued on a case by case basis and requests must be emailed to Ruby (ruby@harwoodartcenter.org) at least one week prior to the start date of the class. The Class Fees will not be refunded if students request to withdraw from the workshop less than one week before the start date of the class or after the class has begun. If the class is cancelled by Harwood Art Center for any reason, the Class Fee will be refunded in full.
