About the Teaching Artist
Molly Zimmer is a textile artist and educator. She creates colorful recycled fabric assemblages inspired by nature, particularly gardens and pollinators. She enjoys cooking, gardening, hiking, cats, sewing with friends, and natural dyeing. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting and Curatorial Studies from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico and nationally. She has taught sewing, natural dyeing, drawing, and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, non-profit art centers, K-12 schools and universities. She lives in Albuquerque where she maintains a studio at the Harwood Art Center.
Come enjoy a crafty weekend with fiber friends and sew a 3D fabric hummingbird from start to finish with recycled fabrics, using Molly’s very own hummingbird pattern. Topics such as pattern construction and garden pollinators will be discussed. Students will go home with additional paper patterns for flowers and insects to try. This class is for all skill levels, who are interested in mixed media, sewing, 3D fabric art, birds, gardens and pollinators, and meeting other fiber enthusiasts.
