About the Teaching Artist
Jeremy Dellarosa has a background in both fine art an illustration, producing work for magazines and books, as well as gallery shows and private commissions. His work is generally figuratively based, in both oils and dry mediums. Additionally, he enjoys working digitally, as well as with clay. He have previously had the pleasure of giving private instruction to both children and adults, and was recently given his first teaching opportunity through Harwood in the Spring of 2021 with a web-based Open Figure Drawing course.
Class Description
This workshop will focus on the importance of value in drawing. A number of methods and tools will be presented to help students better see and understand tonal drawing, and how to use ranges of light and dark to create more dynamic work. Using natural lighting in an outdoor space, students will work with still lives, using value to create a greater sense of atmosphere and to get the most out of their representation of forms.
Where
Harwood’s Art School classes will be held outdoors on our campus near downtown Albuquerque.
When
This class will be held Saturday, October 16th from 10am-2pm.
In the case of inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled to the same time on Sunday, October 17th.
Who
This class is appropriate for beginners to drawing ages 16 and up (under 18 requires parent permission).
The class will be limited to a maximum of15 students.
All participants must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in advance of the class.
What to Bring
- A face mask*
- Kneaded eraser
- White or gum eraser
- Range of Pencils – at least 6B, 2B, HB, 4H
- Range of charcoal, sticks preferable – at least 6B, 2B, HB, 4H
- White charcoal, pencil or stick
- Soft bristle brush, about 1”
- A small empty jar or cup with a lid
- One or two meaningful personal objects that you would like to draw. Try to choose objects with interesting forms and without too many flat surfaces.
- Paper – student’s preference. Loose sheet drawing paper, such as Strathmore 400, sketchbooks or newsprint are all acceptable. Please bear in mind that we will be drawing outside, so in case of wind a drawing board or sketchbook might be helpful to secure your work. Additional tonal paper will be provided by the instructor.
How Much
Harwood is committed to providing accessible classes to our community. All Art School classes this fall will be offered on a sliding scale with subsidized, at cost, and community support options.

Covid Policies
- All staff and students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination to Harwood administration

Refund Policy
Class Fee refunds will only be issued for cancellations received by email (dani@harwoodartcenter.org) or EventBrite’s refund system at least one week prior to the start date of the class. The Class Fees will not be refunded if students withdraw from the workshop less than one week before the start date of the class or after the class has begun. If the class is cancelled by Harwood Art Center for any reason, the Class Fee will be refunded in full.
