About the Teaching Artist
Celine Gordon is an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Barnard College in New York City with a B.A. in Art History and Architecture. She has taught art and design for the past several years, working with students from Albuquerque Public Schools, Indigo Moose, and Albuquerque Academy’s six-week summer session. Celine currently serves as Education Director for the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA). In 2020 she took part in Harwood Art Center’s SURFACE Emerging Artist exhibition. Celine takes a multi-media approach to art practice, but works primarily in drawing and printmaking.

Class Description
Connect with fellow artists and dive into the world of printmaking in a uniquely collaborative way! In this printmaking class, you’ll learn the art of linocut printing with a twist – all your creations will come together to form a beautiful zine on a chosen theme. This class is perfect for both beginners and experienced artists looking for a fresh and inspiring approach to printmaking.
Linocut printmaking offers a versatile and accessible medium for artists of all levels. You can easily continue creating linocuts at home with minimal equipment, making it an ideal skill for artists looking to explore printmaking beyond the classroom. You’ll learn about the tools and materials required, including linoleum blocks, carving tools, inks, and paper.
Together, we will brainstorm and select a theme for our zine and each person will create their own design. You will learn the techniques for creating your linocut, from transferring your image onto the linoleum block to planning the composition and detailing. We will explore various carving techniques as well to achieve different textures, depths, and shading in your prints. We will then print our designs both collaboratively on a small press and individually by hand. At the end of the class, you’ll get to take home a copy of the zine, including your print and everyone else’s.

Refund Policy
Class Fee refunds will be issued on a case by case basis and requests must be emailed to Ruby (ruby@harwoodartcenter.org) at least one week prior to the start date of the class. The Class Fees will not be refunded if students request to withdraw from the workshop less than one week before the start date of the class or after the class has begun. If the class is cancelled by Harwood Art Center for any reason, the Class Fee will be refunded in full.
