About the Teaching Artist
Molly Zimmer is a multimedia artist whose work combines painting, textile, and collage. She holds an MFA in Painting from the University of New Mexico, and a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work has been exhibited throughout New Mexico and nationally. Molly is a Textile Restorer specializing in Navajo weavings and has taught sewing, natural dyeing and painting courses through community-engaged workshops at museums, K-12 schools and universities. She lives in Albuquerque where she maintains a studio at the Harwood Art Center.
Class Description
A one-day workshop exploring the magic of blue using indigo. Students will learn the four basic techniques of the Japanese Art of Shibori: binding, stitching, folding, and pole-wrapping. Students will also learn about the history of Indigo in New Mexico in textiles. All materials are provided; students will take home their very own cotton bandana, dish towel, bulk fabric, and canvas tote dyed in indigo. Experimentation and curiosity are welcome, and students can bring some of their own 100% cotton fabric for dyeing, too. Open to all levels.
Please wear clothes you are okay with getting indigo dye on.
Where
Harwood’s Art School classes will be held outdoors on our campus near downtown Albuquerque.
When
This class will be held Saturday, November 13th from 10am-3pm.
In the case of inclement weather, the class will be rescheduled to the same time on Sunday, November 14th.
Who
This class is appropriate for ages 16 and up (under 18 requires parent permission).
The class will be limited to a maximum of15 students.
All participants must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in advance of the class.
What to Bring

- Please wear clothes that you can get indigo dye on
How Much
Harwood is committed to providing accessible classes to our community. All Art School classes this fall will be offered on a sliding scale with subsidized, at cost, and community support options.

Covid Policies
- All staff and students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination to Harwood administration

- Harwood Art Center shares a campus with Escuela del Sol Montessori School & follows all school-wide health and safety policies.

Refund Policy
Class Fee refunds will only be issued for cancellations received by email (dani@harwoodartcenter.org) or EventBrite’s refund system at least one week prior to the start date of the class. The Class Fees will not be refunded if students withdraw from the workshop less than one week before the start date of the class or after the class has begun. If the class is cancelled by Harwood Art Center for any reason, the Class Fee will be refunded in full.
